Xbox One S Release Date, Price Details & Features: New Video Game Console is Slimmer & Sleeker; Most Expensive Model To Be Launched Ahead
The wait for the slimmer and sleeker member of the Xbox One family is almost over. Microsoft has announced on Monday that a model of the Xbox One S will be hitting store shelves starting August 2. Two more models are set to be launched later this year.
The 2TB Xbox One S Launch Edition
According to Microsoft, 2TB Xbox One S, the most expensive model of the highly anticipated Xbox One S, will be available at the company's online store and at some chosen retailers on the announced date. The launch edition of the newest video game console will kick off at some selected countries.
The 2TB Xbox One S launch edition, bundled with the new Xbox Wireless Controller, will be sold in limited quantities at $399. The controller can also be purchased as a separate item and will be made available on the same date at $59.99. Preorders of the newest video game console are already ongoing.
Two cheaper models of the Xbox One S are also slated to be launched in the coming months. The 1TB Xbox One S will be sold at $349 while the 500GB Xbox One S can be purchased at $299.
Features to Look Forward to With Xbox One S
Last month, Microsoft introduced the Xbox One S, unveiling an improved design and "robot white" color, instead of black. It is 40 percent smaller than its predecessors and comes with an invisible power supply.
The Xbox One S has the capability to stream 4K videos from Netflix, Amazon Video and other services because of its faster and improved processing power compared to older Xboxes. The new video game console also has the ability to upscale 1080p games to 4K and the compatibility to play Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. It also supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) videos, allowing users to watch movies and TV shows with detailed and clearest images.
New Xbox Set to be Released After Xbox One S
The reign of Xbox One S as the trendiest version of Xboxes is not slated to last longer. Microsoft will also be releasing a new Xbox next year called "Project Scorpio." This successor of the Xbox One S has been dubbed by the company as the "most powerful console ever built."
Nathan Olivarez-Giles of The Wall Street Journal wrote that video game fans should be wary about their decision of grabbing the latest Xbox One S. "If you already own an Xbox One, moving to the One S may not make sense unless you really want a slimmer model and don't care about being first when the Scorpio surfaces," he stated.
