Xiaomi Redmi 3 Launch Date Confirmed; Specs May Include Android Lollipop, 13MP Camera, 2 GB of RAM

The device that Xiaomi fans have been waiting for is finally going to be unveiled. According to GSM Arena, the Chinese electronics company has already confirmed the launch date of the Redmi 3 smartphone. The company revealed the information through a teaser that they posted on their official Weibo account.

As stated on NDTV Gadgets, the teaser says that the Redmi 3 handset will debut on Tuesday, Jan. 12. It also teased the rear of the device which showed a textured back panel, which kind of looks like a plaid pattern design. More of that will be unveiled in the launch. Aside from that, it confirmed the screen size, which is 5 inches, as well as the body design, which is a metal unibody chassis.

Not a lot of details were revealed but thanks to some leaks and previously released information from TENAA, fans can have an early preview of what may come with the device. According to Android Authority, the regulatory body has listed a display with 1280 x 720 resolution. Under its hood, one may find a 1.5GHz octa-core processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. An internal storage of 16 GB is also most likely to be featured and users can opt to expand it further, going up to 128 GB, via a microSD card slot.

The device is also expected to run with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. There's no word yet if it will be getting an update of the latest Android OS, the Marshmallow. Tech 2 noted that the OS will be topped with the MIUI V7. As for the camera specs, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 may sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera.

The device is said to have a dimension of 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm and will weigh 143 grams. A silver color variant is expected to be available. As for the price, it's not revealed yet but based on the price tag of the old Redmi 2, its successor may be of the same price range. The Redmi 2 cost only $110.
