Christian Metal Artist, Ex-Hooker to Get Hitched in Vegas
For those who find it hard to connect heavy metal music and Christianity, hookers and Jesus, and Sin City and the Church, Friday will be a day to see them all come together.
On Friday, guitarist Oz Fox of the heavy metal Christian band Stryper will be marrying Annie Lobert, founder of Hookers for Jesus, in The Church At South Las Vegas after having first met last February.
The wedding ceremony, which starts at 7 p.m. PT, will be broadcast live through the church's website, thechurchlv.com/live, where the church typically broadcasts its Saturday evening and Sunday morning services.
"I am getting married," exclaimed Lobert, 41, in her MySpace blog Wednesday. "It's about time."
Though Lobert's supporters were aware of her relationship with 47-year-old Fox as early as last December, fans of the Stryper founder didn't get confirmation until early February - when the guitarist changed his relationship status in Facebook from single to "in a relationship."
According to Lobert, Fox "popped the question" this past Valentine's Day and the couple already obtained a marriage license on May 10.
Both Lobert and Fox have relatively strong fan bases – the former for her outreach to people in the pornography and sex industry, and the latter for being a pioneer in the mainstream popularization of Christian metal music.
Lobert has also made a number of media appearances, including a recent appearance on ABC Nightline, where she joined a debate on the existence of Satan.
Next month, Fox's band will be releasing their eighth album, entitled Murder By Pride.
The band's name stands for "Salvation Through Redemption, Yielding Peace, Encouragement, and Righteousness."
