4 findings from DOJ watchdog report on FBI's handling of Jan. 6 Capitol riot
Over 2 dozen FBI informants were present at the Capitol on Jan. 6
The FBI had at least 26 informants stationed in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021, the day of the U.S. Capitol riot.
Informants, known by the federal government as "confidential human sources" (CHS), frequently play a key role in law enforcement operations, providing intelligence on a range of criminal activities.
The report found of the 26 informants who were in D.C. on that date, four of those entered the Capitol, another 13 entered the restricted area, and nine of them "attended January 6 events but did not enter the Capitol or a restricted area or otherwise engage in illegal activity."
"As noted previously, none of the CHSs that entered the Capitol or a restricted area on January 6 have been prosecuted to date," the report added.
