'Bruce Almighty' Sequel Premiere to Draw Top Christian Bands

Some of today's top Christian and crossover bands have been invited to perform at the premiere of Evan Almighty, the sequel to the popular movie Bruce Almighty.

DecembeRadio, Switchfoot, Jeremy Camp and Relient K are all lined up to head over to southern California on June 11 for the comedy movie which draws much of its story line from scripture.

"The flood's coming and I want you, Evan Baxter, to build an ark," says Morgan Freeman, who plays "God," in the upcoming movie to be released on June 22.

The movie is based on the story of Noah in Genesis where Noah must build an ark before a flood comes to wipe out all of humanity.

In this modern day version, Evan Baxter (played by Steve Carell), who was in the previous installment of the film as a lead newscaster, has now been recently elected to Congress and finds himself moving with his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, however, Baxter is given a mandate by God (Morgan Freeman) to build an ark of biblical proportions. Among the ensuing work, his family must distinguish whether Evan is just going through a mid-life crisis or whether he is legitimately working for "the Big Guy."

The bands that have been asked to play at the premiere of the film, also known as the Rock the Boat concert, have proved themselves to be mainstays in the music industry.

Fledgling Christian rock group DecembeRadio recently found success with their debut album, DecembeRadio, this year, winning the 2007 Dove Award for "Rock Album of the Year."

Switchfoot has become arguably one of the most successful Christian crossover bands playing today. They have been nominated for a Grammy-award as well as taking home multiple Dove Awards in their history.

Jeremy Camp is one of the standout solo rock artists performing currently in the Christian scene. An ordained minister, he has had 10 No. 1 singles on the Christian charts, and has won the "Male Vocalist of the Year" two times at the Dove Awards.

Relient K is also one of the several successful Christian crossover bands presently on the music scene. They were also nominated for a Grammy award in 2003, and their newest album, Five Score and Seven Years Ago, has being doing well on the mainstream charts.

The premiere and Rock the Boat Concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Universal's Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, Calif., just outside Hollywood.
