"Letters From War" Receives Awards From Department Of Defense
Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Mark Schultzs renowned music video "Letters From War" captured a series honors at the 2003-2004 Department of Defense Visual Information Production Awards, including first place in the Internal/Public Information category as well as the prestigious Barbara Rosser Award -the Army's top prize for a multimedia product. Administrative Deputy Secretary of the Army, Mrs. Sandra Riley and Mr. John Hooks, Director of Media and Marketing for the Combat Readiness Center (CRC), were present to accept the award in the Internal/Public Information category, which was presented last month in the Pentagons Hall of Heroes.
"Our mission is to save Soldiers lives through accident prevention programs and by helping Soldiers make wise decisions," commented Hooks. "We knew the song and the video would have a powerful impact on Soldiers, their families and citizens throughout this country and felt that hitting an emotional chord with 'Letters From War' was a positive call to action."
Directed by Mark Dobiecki and co-produced by Craig Miller Productions and the CRC's Media and Marketing department, Letters From War was a collaborative production between the Army and Schultz. Brigadier General Joseph Smith, Commanding General, CRC, invited Schultz to be a part of the groups Be Safe campaign not long after the song was released.
I am thrilled to do anything I can to show my total support for our troops and to help keep them safe both abroad and at home, said Schultz previously regarding his involvement.
Letters From War tells the story of a World War II Soldier in the European theater and his faithful correspondence with his mother. The "period" aspect of the video establishes a strong symbolic relationship between the Soldier of "The Greatest Generation" with the Soldier fighting the War on Terrorism today.
We want our Soldiers home safely whether its transitioning back to the States from overseas or driving home from their installation. Any Soldier we lose is one Soldier too many. We feel this video can make a dramatic impact on reaching our objective, declared Hooks. Every Soldier and his family should see this video.
In other news Letters from War has also been nominated for two 2005 Dove Awards in the categories of Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year and Short Form Music Video of the Year. The Dove Awards ceremony will be held in Nashville, Tennessee on April 13th.
