'Narnia' Movie Tops International Box Office

Disney’s screen adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe hit the top of the international box office this past weekend on the strength of its Japanese debut.

Disney’s screen adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe hit the top of the international box office this past weekend on the strength of its Japanese debut, which raked in $9.2 million at the box office.

The film, which began its international campaign nearly three months ago, has earned over $389 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to almost $680 million.

In other news, Narnia makeup artists Howard Berger and Tami Lane picked up their first Oscar on Sunday, winning the “Achievement in Makeup” award for their work on the film. The movie was also nominated for “Achievement in Sound Mixing” and “Achievement in Visual Effects,” which both went to Universal’s King Kong.

Narnia was also a winner at this year’s Movieguide Faith & Values Awards, winning the awards for “Most Inspiring Movie of 2005” and “Best Family Movie of 2005.” The event, also known as “The Christian Oscars,” was held on Mar. 2 at the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel and attracted more than 150 celebrities and other guests.

Meanwhile, Prince Caspian, the upcoming sequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has been given the potential release date of Dec. 14, 2007, according to Box Office Mojo. Caspian will see the return of many familiar faces from LWW including the four Pevensie children and director Andrew Adamson.
