The 1 year old boy was inside a home nearby when an unidentified man started shooting nearby. Stray bullets apparently went through their home window and hit him.

The young boy was hit in the neck, but amazingly survived the gunshot wound. He was rushed to Children's Hospital in Oakland for treatment, and underwent emergency surgery to stabilize his condition.

Father Rosshan Ali told KGO-TV has said, "This shouldn't happen, my son didn't do nothing to nobody, I didn't do nothing to nobody. I go to work and come home you know. And it's not my fault I live in a certain area."

The father has explained that the child's mother was in the shower when the shooting took place. He has said that the young boy was being held by his grandmother when he was hit by the bullet.

He said, "As far as I know my mom was inside watching him. Like I said, my fiancee came home from work. She was in the shower, and next thing you know, shots fired and my mom grabbed him and ran into the kitchen."

Richmond police have announced a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the man responsible for the shooting. They have admitted that at the moment they still have not identified a motive for the shots being fired.

Richmond Police Chief Chris Magnus has said, "You have a one-year-old child who was literally in the arms of the grandparents. They are feeding him and bullets come into the house."

He added, "I am really angry about this. I am sickened, I am appalled. This is completely unacceptable and it is our highest priority to catch those who are involved."
