Brown, a nationally recognized leader and expert in gang, youth and urban violence reduction and coalition building, who founded Rebuilding Every Community Around Peace, also known as RECAP, called the verdict “ONLY THE FIRST STEP” in a statement on Facebook Wednesday.
"Mark 11:15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, ‘Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’’

"Yesterday’s verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial was a moment in history. In recent memory, only 7 police officers have ever been convicted for murder. The jubilation that was experienced by the crowd at the Floyd memorial in Minneapolis and the Floyd family was felt all around the world. But as I read a chain of emails this morning, there were many who said that despite the verdict, they are still angry," Brown said.
"It’s because this one event does not fix the problem (cf. Columbus, Ohio police shooting last night). There’s more to be done. When Jesus cleared the temple of the money changers, he didn’t stop there. He taught the meaning of his actions to the people (v. 17). There is much educating to be done today about how we move forward as a society, and we all must share in the curriculum building. And we have to keep the momentum going. As we know, there was backlash to Jesus’ actions (Good Friday). But we also know that for every Friday, there’s a Sunday coming... "
