10 notable Christian ministry leaders, influencers who died in 2023
Pat Robertson – June 8, 2023
Conservative Christian broadcaster, author, Regent University chancellor and onetime Republican presidential candidate, Pat Robertson, died at age 93.
A native of Lexington, Virginia, Robertson was best known for his political and social commentary while hosting the long-running television show “The 700 Club,” as well as founding multiple organizations, including the Christian Coalition and the American Center for Law & Justice.
Robertson often garnered backlash for his controversial remarks, such as blaming the 2010 earthquake that ravaged Haiti on a pact with the devil that the nation allegedly made, arguing that people married to those with Alzheimer's could divorce them because of the illness, and once suggesting that the United States should assassinate Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez.
"Pat Robertson dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel, helping those in need, and educating the next generation," stated the Christian Broadcasting Network, which Robertson founded in 1960.
"Pat had a hunger for knowledge of the Lord, and he wanted to share the love and faithfulness of Jesus with the world. His heart's desire was that all people come to know Jesus."
