10 possible challengers to Trump in 2020
John Delaney
Democrat John Delaney, a former member of Congress who represented Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District, left the legislative branch to pursue a presidential campaign.
A former finance executive who was the youngest CEO on the New York Stock Exchange in 1995, Delaney declared his intentions to run for president late last year.
In an interview with CNBC published on Dec. 27, Delaney explained that he identified as a Democrat because of his Catholic-influenced beliefs on social justice issues.
“My wife and I are active Catholics. We identify very much with the social justice mission of the church and I think that has made me much more oriented to the Democratic Party,” explained Delaney.
“… even though I’m a capitalist and I’ve spent most of my career in the private sector as an entrepreneur starting businesses, I believe strongly that there’s a role for government to prepare our citizens for the world and to create a safety net for those that are inevitably left behind.”
