12 Celebrities You Didn't Know Were Mormons

Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has been one of the most recently publicized Mormons, but he is not the only notable follower of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Several competitive dancers made the list, including ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” alum and girlfriend to Ryan Seacrest Julianne Hough. Raised in Utah, Hough is no longer on the show, and has been pursuing a career in singing and acting. She has been in the films “Burlesque” and 2011 remake of “Footloose.”

Hough’s “Burlesque” co-star, Christina Aguilera, is rumored to have been raised Mormon, as her parents were said to have met at Brigham Young University, a private Mormon university in Utah.

Julianne Hough’s brother, Derek Hough, who is also Mormon, is still competing on the show. He has won the competition’s mirror ball trophy three times while partnered with the shows current host Brooke Burke, Pussycat Doll songstress Nicole Scherzinger, and “Dirty Dancing” actress Jennifer Grey. He made it to the finals in the last season, with television host Ricki Lake.

Lacey Schwimmer, who is also a professional dancer on “Dancing with the Stars,” was raised Mormon.

Actress Amy Adams from was raised Mormon but rumored to have given up the faith, which is similar to actress Katherine Heigl of “Knocked Up” and Eliza Dushku of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Dushku’s family is reportedly still very religious.

Paul Walker of the “Fast and Furious” movies admitted to USA Today in 2005 that he was raised Mormon, but stopped adhering to the “no alcohol, no premarital sex” values years ago.

“I still hold myself accountable,” he told USA Today. “I'm not the kind of guy who's taking advantage of my position. I could be sleeping with a different 18-year-old girl every day if I wanted to. But that's not my speed.”

Walker has a 14-year-old daughter from a past relationship.

“American Idol” season seven runner-up David Archuleta announced last year that he plans to take a break to go on a 2-year Mormon mission. He was born in Florida and moved to Utah at a young age.

Comedian Chelsea Handler was also raised in a Mormon and Jewish household.
