'2 Broke Girls' Season 7: Fate of CBS Sitcom Still in Limbo

It remains uncertain whether "2 Broke Girls" will remain on the airwaves after its sixth season concludes this month.

CBS has already named the shows that made it to the early order list for the network's 2017-2018 schedule of programs and "2 Broke Girls" is not one of them.

The sitcom was created by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings and started airing in 2011. As the name suggests, the sitcom's narrative revolves around two struggling girl friends, Max Black (Kat Dennings) and Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs).

Max was not always poor. She used to live with a silver spoon on her mouth. However, her father was caught participating in an illegal scheme that was also the source of their riches. On the other hand, Caroline has always been penniless.

With both girls wanting to make their lives better, they started working as waitresses at a diner and have been trying to raise money to open their own business.

Viewer ratings for "2 Broke Girls" season 6, as well as for other CBS shows, are now shown on several reports. These might give fans and viewers a bit of an explanation why the network is yet to decide the fate of the sitcom.

Reports show that "2 Broke Girls" gathered just about 5.7 million viewers, which is lower by 10.91 percent than the numbers the comedy show racked up last year.

However, "2 Broke Girls" did better in the 18-49 age group with a 1.34 rating compared to the rookie comedy shows that have already been renewed, which are "Man with a Plan" (1.31) and Superior Donuts (1.28). As a further point of comparison, however, the newbie comedies have garnered more in the number of viewers with 6.5 million and 6.7 million, respectively.

On the other hand, reports are positive that "2 Broke Girls" still has a chance to remain on air for some more time after season 6. After all, statistics show that it is not the least performing comedy series on CBS.

And as Deadline mentioned, the Warner Bros TV-produced sitcom is considered the "biggest off-network sale for a half-hour comedy series" and says "2 Broke Girls" is still able to bring in as much as $1.7 million per episode.

Meanwhile, CBS has announced the renewal of shows under various genres, namely "Life in Pieces," "Mom," "Kevin Can Wait," "NCIS: Los Angeles," "NCIS: New Orleans," "Hawaii Five-O," "Blue Bloods," "Scorpion," "Madam Secretary," "Bull," "MacGyver." "Survivor," "60 Minutes," and "48 Hours."
