2004 Christian Music Awards Top Nominees Announecd

In an announcement broadcast live on JAM*590 (WJRG/Endicott), the nominees for the 70+ 2004 American Christian Music Awards categories were presented. This announcement was made two days earlier than originally scheduled in anticipation of Memorial Day Weekend.

Top nominees announced for the 2004 American Christian Music Awards represent the tremendous range of artists in the Christian/Gospel music industry. Christian music’s newest sensation Casting Crowns, mainstream breakouts MercyMe and Stacie Orrico are just some of those who lead the list of nominees. ForeFront/EMI CMG artist Orrico garnered ten nominations, including “Performing Artist of the Year” and “Female Vocalist of the Year”, as well as several for her latest self-titled project and her crossover hit “(There’s Gotta Be) More To Life”.

“Female Vocalist of the Year” was also one of four nominations for Vickie Winans, who’s joined in that category with CeCe Winans, Darlene Zschech, Jaci Velasquez, and Nichole Nordeman.

This year’s GMA Gospel Music Awards big winner, MercyMe, received multiple nominations in this year’s 2004 American Christian Music Awards, including “Performing Artist of the Year” and “Group/Duo of the Year”. Bart Mallard received a nomination in the category of “Songwriter of the Year” and Spoken For and “Word of God Speak” are also up for multiple nominations.

“Songwriter of the Year” was also one of nine nominations for Creative Trust Workshop artist Warren Barfield, who is joined in the category by Bebo Norman, Jonathan Foreman, Mark Hall and Pete Kipley.

The ten songs vying for the “Recorded Song of the Year” are: “A Shame”, “Dear Slim Part 2”, “He Reigns”, “If We Are The Body”, “Meant To Live”, “Moment Made For Worshipping”, “(There’s Gotta Be) More To Life”, “My Heart Goes Out To You”, “Shake Yourself Loose” and “Word Of God Speak”.

“Performing Artist of the Year” nominations go to KJ-52, MercyMe, Michael W. Smith, Orrico, Switchfoot and Barfield.

“Male Vocalist of the Year” nominees are Chris Rice, KJ-52, Michael W. Smith, Shaun Groves, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Barfield.

Artists up for “Duo/Group of the Year are Avalon, Kutless, MercyMe, Switchfoot, Third Day and ZOEgirl.

This year’s New Artist of the Year categories were split in two, thanks to a plethora of talented new artists this year. Nominees for “New Individual Artist of the Year” are Bethany Dillon, Ian Eskelin, Lil iROCC Williams, Nate Sallie, Sarah Kelly and Trevor Morgan. Nominees for “New Individual Duo/Group of the Year” are BarlowGirl, Building 429, Casting Crowns, Jonah33, Silers Bald and Sky Harbor.

Awards will be handed out in 74 categories. The winner will be announced during the 2004 American Christian Music Awards on September 24 at the Rock Invasion 2004 in State College, PA. American Christian Music Awards nominations go to recordings released during the eligibility period March 1, 2003 through May 31, 2004 and voted on by the fans and industry members of the Christian/Gospel Music world.
