4. Lars Mapstead
Libertarian candidate Lars Mapstead is marketing his campaign as an effort to “unrig the system.” He wants to “unrig our elections” by implementing “ballot access reform” enabling Americans to support more third-party candidates and tying “federal funding in elections to counting only votes received by poll closing on election day,” in addition to allowing “independent observers” and “transparent counting processes to protect the integrity of our elections.”
Mapstead’s proposal to “unrig the economy” includes the establishment of a “national consumption tax” that “eliminates the income tax, closes the loopholes, and eliminates the IRS so everyone pays the same tax.” He also wants to “cut the self-employment tax in half to ensure contractors, creators, uber drivers, and more aren’t double-taxed simply because they are self-employed.”
Mapstead’s platform to “unrig healthcare” consists of allowing “anyone to form a group for health insurance purposes — not just employers — to allow for an explosion of competition in the insurance market.” He also stressed the “need to tie federal funding to transparent, listed prices for all procedures at every provider that receives Medicare or Medicaid funding.”
