2024 presidential election: 10 candidates running third-party campaigns
8. Claudia de la Cruz
Claudia de la Cruz is the presidential nominee of the Party of Socialism and Liberation and Karina Garcia is its vice presidential nominee. Their presidential platform declares that “abortion should be available without restrictions and provided for free.”
Additionally, de la Cruz and Garcia believe that “the [C]onstitution must finally include a provision guaranteeing equal rights for women,” suggesting support for the Equal Rights Amendment. Other aspects of the platform include the expansion of affirmative action programs and the institution of reparations. The campaign cites the seizure of the 100 largest corporations in the U.S. as a way to pay for reparations and other progressive priorities such as the elimination of student debt and free medical care.
As part of a push to “overthrow the dictatorship of the rich,” de la Cruz and Garcia are calling for the abolition of the U.S. Supreme Court as well as the U.S. Senate. The progressive duo have overlapping priorities with Libertarian and Republican candidates in some cases by vowing to abolish the FBI, NSA and CIA, in addition to calling for an end to foreign interventionism.
Another plank of the platform calls for “full equality for LGBTQ people in all areas of society and national legislation banning discrimination at the workplace and in all public and private institutions.”
