21 Jump Street Universe News, 22 Jump Street Sequel Rumors: Sony Developing Female Focused 'Jump Street' and 'Men In Black' Crossover
As part of Sony's bid to build successful franchises, the studio is expanding the universe of one of its newer franchises, "21 Jump Street." It recently announced that the studio is working on a female-driven version of the action-comedy film as well as a possible crossover of the original "21 Jump Street" cast in an upcoming "Men In Black" movie.
The female driven "Jump Street" already has signed on writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs of TV comedy "Broad City," to work on the script. This recent move, according to a report in The Guardian, is similar to Sony's plans for the "Ghostbusters" franchise.
Aside from the female spinoff however, the studio has big plans for a sequel to "22 Jump Street." The film's stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are said to be working together on the next film. Lord, who co-directed the first two films with Miller, said in the report that they are working around the "fake sequels" that were already hinted at the end of "22 Jump Street" and will introduce something new. He also mentioned that Rodney Rothman is working on the sequel's script and has "a really outrageous idea for what to do."

Sony is also planning to create a Shared Universe between "Jump Street" and "Men In Black." According to another report in The Wrap, this was one of the things that Hill was excited about in the leaked emails of Sony. The plan is for the characters of Hill and Tatum join forces with the "Men In Black" team in fighting aliens. It has not been confirmed whether "MIB" stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin will come back to reprise their roles.
"22 Jump Street" grossed $331 million worldwide, with higher domestic grosses than its foreign grosses. Sony hopes that the female driven spinoff will fare well in the box office, as is the trend in female driven spinoffs, according to the report.
