'24' Coming Back to Fox?
Officials of the FOX network recently told a group of press people that the network is developing what it calls "a new take on the hit drama series '24.'" During a conference call, Gary Newman, CEO and co-chairmen at FOX said, "We have been developing another version of '24,' but it's still fairly early in the development process."
According to a report in IGN, this announcement was in line with an earlier comment from another FOX official Dana Walden that the original "24" star Kiefer Sutherland will no longer be involved in the next installment of the series.
"We're not talking about continuing the show without him. We're talking about whether there Is one installment that he's not in," she said.
The report also cited Sutherland's comment last year that he no longer saw himself reprising his role as Jack Bauer in the series.
Reviving the series may be a likelihood, with FOX already working on a revival of the "The X-Files" which will have a limited run starting January of next year.
"24" is a TV series on Fox that followed Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) who is a Counter Terrorist Unit agent. The series used the "real time" method of narration, with each episode covering 24 hours of Bauer's life. Each season runs for 24 episodes and the show ran for a record eight seasons from November 2001 to May 2010. In 2014, the series returned for a limited 12-episode run called "24: Live Another Day."
The show received constant critical acclaim for its approach and was touted by critics as one of the best shows on television. It was nominated and won several awards for TV from the Emmys, the Golden Globes, and the Screen Actors Guild. Nominations usually were for its acting, directing, writing, editing, sound, music score and stunt coordination. Of its 68 Emmy nominations, the show has won 20, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2006.
