2,500 Calories a Night, 225 Pounds: Woman Can't Stop Eating in Her Sleep
A 55-year-old woman has blamed her recent weight gain and 2,500-calories-a-night binge eating on a sleeping disorder.
Lesley Cusack claims that she has no idea she is consuming extreme amounts of calories at night. That is, not until she wakes up in the morning to discover a messy kitchen and used food items thrown in the cash.
"I can only tell by the remains in the morning," Cusack said according to the Daily Mail. "Sometimes I've found soup in pans, but also in bowls -- it all can get rather messy."
During her late night binging, Cusack reveals that she has consumed up to 2,500 calories on some nights. But she does it all in her sleep, according to the mother of three. As a result, Cusack also complains that she has gained weight and is now over 224 pounds. To combat weight gain, she sticks to a diet of fruits and salads during the day, according to the report.
While Cusack, who lives in the United Kingdom, has failed to find a doctor with answers, she believes that it is a sleeping disorder, specifically a nocturnal sleep-related eating disorder, that has her messing up her kitchen at night. And not only does she consume food, she also admits that she has consumed less palatable things like paint and Vaseline as well.
"The worst things that I know I've eaten are emulsion paint, Vaseline, cough syrup, raw potatoes and soap powder. The night I ate paint was the only time I've ever woken up. I can still remember standing in the kitchen touching my mouth and being very confused," she said.
Cusack describes the disorder as humiliating.
"I had started to find bits of mess downstairs, but I didn't realise it was me. It was a while before I worked it out, but when I did, I felt very embarrassed and guilty," she said. "There were times when I felt extremely depressed through trying to hide it."
