Rumors of the third title in the series persisted as early as 2012, and pre-production was speculated as having started as early as March this year, with a supposed casting call revealing the new game would take place in a Louisiana setting.

The soon-to-be unveiled third title was teased with an image sent over 2K United Kingdom's Twitter account Tuesday pointing out the date and location of the reveal.

The open-world gangster title's announcement image depicted four characters: one female and three males whose silhouettes are lit by the headlights from the cars behind them.

The game's second title was developed by 2K Game's Czech division which closed its Prague office last year after company restructuring. 2K's website has published the news its newly established Hangar13, headed by LucasArts veteran, Haden Blackman, will be developing "Mafia III."

The next installment in the 1940s to 1950s era action adventure title will bring players back into the world of organized crime told in an immersive narrative and featuring period cars, music, fashion, and weapons.

Gameplay will center around a police "Wanted" system that tracks players' crimes, traffic violations, and other offenses, with the goal to keep a low profile and avoid authorities.

2K has yet to confirm which platforms "Mafia III" will be available in, with as yet unverified reports emerging Xbox One and PS4 would be carrying the title.
