'3-gatsu no Lion' Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers: Rei Kiriyama's Shogi-Playing Life Continues in October

The daily life and struggles of young shogi player, Rei Kiriyama, continues in the upcoming second season of the Japanese slice of life anime series, "3-gatsu no Lion (March Lion)" or "March Comes in Like a Lion."

A new promotional video has been released, and it shows Rei interacting with the people around him about normal everyday things. There is also something about a battle breaking out at Hinata's school. Hinata and her sisters Momo and Akari consist the Kawamoto sisters, with whom Rei has gradually grown close to in the first season.

It also seems that there will be a lot of shogi playing scenes.

The long-version trailer also features the series' opening theme titled "Flag wo tatero" by YUKI, as well its ending theme titled, "Kafune" performed by Brian the Sun.

The series is based on an ongoing manga series by Chica Umino, who has previously worked on the popular manga series "Honey and Clover." It was first published in Hakusensha's seinen manga magazine, "Young Animal," in 2007 and has since been released in 12 collected volumes. The anime adaptation was produced by Shaft and began airing its first season from October 2016 to March 2017.

The series has also won several awards which include the Manga Taisho award and the Kodansha Manga award in 2011, as well as the top award at the 18th Tezuka Osamu Prizes in 2014.

It has also inspired a two-part live-action film adaptation which was directed by Keishi Otomo and starred Ryunosuke Kamiki. It was distributed by Toho and Asmik Ace and was released on March 18 and April 22 of this year.

"3-gatsu no Lion" premiers on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 p.m. JST on NHK. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site. The second season is expected to run for 22 episodes.
