Democrats accuse Republicans of peddling 'conspiracy theories'
Rep. Goldman seemed to disagree with Parker's analysis that changes at the FBI had resulted in low morale, stating that he had worked in the Justice Department for 10 years alongside FBI special agents.
"The most damage to the morale of the FBI occurred after Donald Trump started attacking the FBI because he was being investigated by the FBI," the Democratic representative argued. "That is what this subcommittee is all about."
Delegate Stacey Plaskett of the U.S. Virgin Islands, a Democrat, acknowledged that congressional oversight is essential. However, she is "deeply concerned about using the select subcommittee as a place to settle scores, showcase conspiracy theories and advance an extreme agenda that risks undermining Americans' faith in our democracy."
Plaskett believes "dangerous rhetoric and baseless accusations against the Justice Department and FBI" from some Republicans on the panel undermine the agencies' work. She worries about the panel's plans to probe existing investigations and vowed to "resist" any attempts to derail ongoing legitimate investigations into Trump or "any other president and others within his orbit."
