3 things to know about the Biden corruption allegations
Bank account affiliated with Biden family received over $1 million from Chinese energy company
A memorandum compiled by the House Oversight Committee and dated March 16, 2023, outlines the contents of "financial records related to Mr. John Robinson Walker, a Biden family associate, and his company Robinson Walker, LLC." The committee issued a subpoena seeking the records upon receiving information that "Mr. Walker used his company to transfer money to Biden family members."
The memo states that Walker established his company in 2008 and that Biden family members received a combined $1.3 million in payments from "Rob Walker related accounts" between 2015 and 2017. Recipients of funds from the accounts include Hunter Biden, the president's daughter-in-law Hallie and his brother James. In addition to the family members clearly identified in the financial records, a bank account listed as "Biden" regularly appeared in the documents. The committee is working to determine "the identity of this account holder."
"On March 1, 2017 — less than two months after Vice President Joe Biden left public office — State Energy HK Limited, a Chinese company, wired $3 million to Robinson Walker, LLC," the memo said. "At the time of the wire, Rob Walker's business account had a balance of approximately $159,000."
One day after receiving this payment, Robinson Walker sent $1,065,000 to the Abu Dhabi-based European Energy and Infrastructure Group, a company associated with Hunter Biden's associate James Gilliar. The memo identifies Gillar as someone "involved in foreign transactions with the Biden family."
Following the Chinese energy company making a $3 million payment to Robinson Walker, LLC, accounts associated with the Biden family began to receive a series of payments totaling $1,065,692 over a three-month period. In addition to the money paid to the Biden family in the months after he left office, the memo reports on the existence of payments to Robinson Walker, LLC, during Biden's tenure as vice president.
Specifically, these payments include $179,836.86 from an unknown company with an overseas bank account in November 2015. In the week after Robinson Walker, LLC, received the payment, Hunter Biden received a $59,900 payment. The memo concluded with the committee expressing concerns about "the national security implications of a President's or Vice President's immediate family members receiving millions of dollars from foreign nationals or companies without any oversight."
The second set of bank records released by the House Oversight Committee on May 10 discusses a business relationship between Hunter Biden and two individuals connected to the Chinese energy company CEFC. The memo describes CEFC as an entity used to "bribe and corruptly influence foreign officials."
Hunter Biden reportedly established a company in partnership with CEFC's Gongwen "Kevin" Dong. Additional information contained in the memo reveals that a company associated with Hunter Biden received $100,000 from a CEFC subsidiary.
