30 Arrests at 49ers Final Home Game, Overshadows Farewell Ceremony, Playoff Birth

Police in San Francisco revealed that 30 people were arrested during the 49ers' final regular season game at Candlestick Park on Monday night.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the arrests following Monday night's game and stated that in addition to the arrests, 81 people were ejected from the grounds and seven people were cited for other infractions.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that at least some of the people were arrested on suspicion of stealing seats and other items from the stadium. Police Chief Greg Suhr had said before the game that fans could expect 50 percent more officers at Monday's game as opposed to other regular season games.

The 49ers secured a playoff spot after beating the Atlanta Falcons 34-24 in dramatic fashion after linebacker NaVorro Bowman returned an interception 89 yards with just over a minute remaining in the game.

After the game coach Jim Harbaugh, whose 50th birthday was Monday, said he could not think of a better present.

"That was one of the greatest plays I've ever seen," Harbaugh said after the game. "I don't think I've ever been involved in a game where something that great happened."

"Best birthday present I've ever gotten, second only to being born," Harbaugh added.

The Niners began playing at Candlestick Park in 1971. The team is moving to a new, $1.2 billion stadium next season.

Despite their poor performances in the air, the 49ers have been strong throughout the season, and have a winning habit – a highly sought after quality as the playoffs loom.
The good news is they are fantastic form at just the right time in the season. In recent weeks they have defeated the Washington Redskins 27-6, the St Louis Rams 23-13, the Seattle Seahawks 19-17, and last week they were impressive in their 33-14 on the road win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 49ers have relied heavily on rush this season, and are currently ranking 5th in rush offense in the league. They post an average of 137.1 yards in rush per game, and have used it effectively to take command of and control the pace of the game.
