'God resides in each of us': 4 highlights from Vivek Ramaswamy's Iowa town hall
2. Ramaswamy calls for shutting down Education Dept., using savings for school security
In response to a question about last week’s school shooting in nearby Perry, Iowa, asking if he could “mandate the presence of armed staff members in public and private schools” and put “at least one armed staff member in the building before the school’s doors open in the morning,” Ramaswamy asserted, “I don’t think one is sufficient.” Instead, he contended, “We need a minimum of three armed security guards in every school across this country.”
“States that lack the funding to do it have a great place to start,” he added. He offered a plan to “shut down the Department of Education” and “return the money back to states,” estimating that “for a tiny fraction of that, you can have three to four [armed security officers] in every school across this country.”
