'Betrayed the central tenet of Easter': Reactions to Biden's Easter trans day proclamation
Mike Johnson
House Speaker Johnson declared in a Saturday X post that the Biden administration “has betrayed the central tenet of Easter — which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” Johnson, a member of the Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, Louisiana, is outspoken about his Christian beliefs.
The speaker referred to the Biden administration’s conduct around Easter as “outrageous and abhorrent.” In addition to celebrating the “Transgender Day of Visibility” on Easter, Johnson took issue with a rule prohibiting religious symbols at the annual Easter Egg Roll.
A flyer for the event stated that participants “must not include any questionable content, religious symbols, overtly religious themes, or partisan political statements.”
The first lady’s communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, wrote in a Saturday X post that the American Egg Board’s “standard non-discrimination language” has been used for at least 45 years at all White House Easter Egg Roll events.
After Biden called Johnson “uninformed" for claiming he declared Easter as "Transgender Day of Visibility," Johnson highlighted Biden’s signature on a document proclaiming March 31 as “Transgender Day of Visibility."
"The evidence speaks for itself, as we used to say in the courtroom,” Johnson said during an interview with Fox New’s Sean Hannity, suggesting that perhaps Biden was not aware of what he signed.
“That might be even more alarming,” the House speaker added.
