Over 700,000 signatures gathered in effort to codify abortion in state constitution, allow trans surgeries for kids

A coalition of medical professionals who believe the reversal of Roe v. Wade is harming their patients celebrated the result of the signature-gathering effort. OPRR co-founders Dr. Lauren Beene and Dr. Marcela Azevedo said in a Wednesday statement that the group’s efforts to “enshrine” abortion in Ohio’s constitution began last July.
“Over the past year, support for the amendment has grown exponentially thanks to our partners at ORF, the thousands of volunteers who gathered signatures in communities across the state, and the hundreds of thousands of people who added their names to our petitions,” the pair said. “Today, the message we and they are sending is loud and clear: ‘let the people decide.’”
