4 takeaways from Trump virtual town hall: more economic aid, defending gov’t response
More economic aid likely
Trump explained that there would likely be more economic assistance given to Americans in the near future, aside from the previously approved $1,200 paychecks and other aid.
The town hall featured a video question from a single mother living in Alabama who lost her job during the shutdown and asked if additional economic aid was coming.
“There is more help coming,” said Trump in response. “We have to do more and we’re going to do more and everybody wants to do more. On that aspect of it, it’s very bipartisan.”
Trump predicted a better third quarter for the American economy, believing that people who have lost their jobs in recent months will get better ones.
Later on in the town hall, Trump responded to a question from a couple that owned a small business in Florida, explaining that the way to help the economy is to “get it open.”
“At some point we have to open our country and people are going to be safe. We’ve learned a lot. We’ve learned about the tremendous contagion,” he responded. “We have to bring back the business.”
