On reopening churches
A woman from Florida explained that she and her husband work at church and asked the president when he believed churches could resume in-person worship.
Trump responded that he hoped it would be “very soon,” adding that while he has benefitted from watching church services online, “it’s not like being in a church.”
“We have to get our people back to churches and we’re going to start doing it soon,” declared Trump, who denounced some of the measures taken against churches that meet in person.
Last week, U.S. Attorney General William Barr threatened legal action against state officials who violate people's civil rights when enforcing stay-at-home orders.
“If a state or local ordinance crosses the line from an appropriate exercise of authority to stop the spread of COVID19 into an overbearing infringement of constitutional and statutory protections, the Department of Justice may have an obligation to address that overreach in federal court,” read a memo by Barr.
