49ers' coach Jim Tomsula praised Colin Kaepernick, says the QB is 'very smart and talented'

Jim Tomsula, who accepted the 49ers job last January, says he inherited a fully equipped quarterback, in the form of Colin Kaepernick.

According to ESPN, Tomsula told the Pittsburgh press in a conference call that Kaepernick's game doesn't need any fixes at all, before this Sunday's game against the Steelers. "I don't think we had something that was broke, He's a very talented athlete. He's a very talented quarterback. We always want to compare — this guy's Danny Marino, this guy's Terry Bradshaw — Colin Kaepernick is just Colin Kaepernick," the coach proudly told the media about his quarterback.

The 49ers' coach said that they want to utilize Kaepernick's potential since they said that the athlete already "got a skill set."

Last Monday, the quarterback competed 17 out of 26 passes for 165 yards. Kaepernick also rushed for 41 rushing yards in their 20 to 3 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. The talented athlete was also said to look more poised and patient by throwing first, instead of taking off like what he does in the past.

Besides being a talented athlete, the coach also praised Kaepernick's intelligence and quick thinking. "He's a really smart guy, by the way. He was an AP student in high school, very smart, and really impressive that way in meeting rooms," the coach explained.

Obviously, the Steelers felt that Kaepernick is a threat to them so they employed their backup quarterback Michael Vick. Vick is known to be one of the world's best-running quarterbacks of all time, and having him will simulate the 49ers' quarterback's rushing ability for the defense.

The Steeler's linebacker Lawrence Timmons said that they have to be aware of Kaepernick's feet. "We definitely have to keep him contained. Can't let him break the pocket and get outside and just fly to the ball," the linebacker said. Timmons added that they are looking forward to "rising to the occasion" in this Sunday's match against the 49ers.
