5 Christian athletes who made an impact in 2018
Nick Foles
In the wake of Carson Wentz’s season-ending injury last December, backup quarterback Nick Foles took over at the helm of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although many consider Wentz to be the better quarterback, it was Foles who led the Eagles through a successful playoff push to bring Philadelphia its first Super Bowl victory in February.
Foles was awarded the Super Bowl LIII MVP as he threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns in the game. He was even given an ESPY award for best championship performance.
Much like Wentz, Foles is not afraid to let his Christian faith be known.
In a press conference prior to Super Bowl LII, Foles told the media that he hopes to one day become a pastor.
"I want to be a pastor in a high school,” Foles said at the time. “It's on my heart. I took a leap of faith last year and signed up to take classes at seminary. I wanted to continue to learn and challenge my faith. It's a challenge because you are writing papers that are biblically correct. You want to impact people's hearts.”
With Wentz going down with a back injury in the final month of the 2018 season, Foles led the struggling Eagles back to the playoffs this year as he took in the final three games and led the team to three straight wins.
