5 Bible Verses to Think About While Shopping
It's that time of year again. Time for people to go about stores and malls and shop 'til they drop.
America's love of shopping kicks into high gear during November and December, as Black Friday and holiday sales abound.
This intense shopping season often brings crazed crowds who climb over each other for better and better deals.
The Bible has some things to say about the materialism so often at play during this commercialized season.
Below are a few verses and passages, in no particular order of importance, to think about as one shops — be it during the holiday season, or any time.
1. Matthew 6:19-21
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
2. 1 Timothy 6:7-8
For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
3. Matthew 16:26
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
4. Proverbs 21:17
Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich.
5. 2 Corinthians 9:8
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
