‘Another promise kept': 5 evangelical leaders respond to Trump’s Golan Heights statement
John Hagee
John Hagee, senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, who also serves as founder and chairman of Christians United for Israel, celebrated the statement.
Hagee said in a statement released Thursday that when CUFI members met with administration officials in the past, “the Golan Heights’ importance to Israel’s security” was recognized.
“When it was under Syrian control, the Golan Heights was used to attack Israeli civilians in the region below. During the Syrian civil war we saw all too well the brutality of the Assad regime, including the willingness of Damascus to use chemical weapons,” Hagee wrote.
“We are very grateful to the president for having the courage to express that position and look forward to the U.S. formally recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.”
