5 famous people now supporting, endorsing Trump after assassination attempt

Elon Musk

Tesla founder and X CEO Elon Musk, though he previously expressed reluctance to endorse a 2024 presidential candidate, came out in full-throated support of Trump shortly after he was shot Saturday.

"I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery," Musk tweeted less than an hour after the shooting.

"Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt," he later added in an apparent reference to when Roosevelt was shot in the chest but survived and finished a speech in 1912.

Musk also called on the top brass of the U.S. Secret Service to resign, writing: "Extreme incompetence or it was deliberate. Either way, the SS leadership must resign."

Despite an increasing rapport with Trump in recent months, Musk had held off on throwing his support behind any particular candidate until Saturday's shooting, though he had previously expressed frustration with President Joe Biden.

"I may, in the final stretch, endorse a candidate," Musk told journalist Don Lemon during an interview in March. "But I don’t know yet … I’m leaning away from Biden. I’ve made no secret of that."

A day before the assassination attempt, Bloomberg reported that Musk had donated to America PAC, a political action committee committed to re-electing Trump.

In response to an X user who said Trump should choose Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate, Musk also tweeted: "You’re right."

Trump announced Vance as his vice presidential candidate on Monday. "TRUMP VANCE," Musk tweeted following the announcement. "Resounds with victory."
