5 Helpful Bible Verses to Deal With Divorce
After God created the world, one of the first things that concerned Him was that we did not go through life alone. He said in Genesis 2:18, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him." So along with creating this beautiful earth, God also created marriage between a man and woman.
Unfortunately, right after that was the fall of man in Genesis 3. It would change things forever, and one area where we can see sin is in the marriage relationship. Divorce is a very common thing lately, even for churchgoers that are strong in faith.
The topic of divorce has many scriptures that we can look to for answers. Whether it be about divorce being allowed, what happens when a spouse dies, and what Jesus had to say about divorce while he was still on earth.
Below are 5 Bible verses about divorce:
Deuteronomy 22:19 and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought a bad name upon a virgin of Israel. And she shall be his wife. He may not divorce her all his days.
Proverbs 3: 3-5 - Trust in the lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
Malachi 2:16 "For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her, says the LORD, the God of Israel, covers his garment with violence, says the LORD of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be faithless."
Proverbs 30: 21-23 - Under three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up. A servant who becomes king, a fool who is full of food, an unloved woman who is married, and a maidservant who displaces her mistress.
1 Corinthians 7: 15 – 17 - But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O man, whether you will save your wife? But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk.
