Panelist calls for 'destruction' of capitalism
During a meeting of the Youth Council, one of the official DNC consistency councils, on Monday, one panelist expressed a desire to use the Green New Deal to further the “destruction” of capitalism.
“This future that we all want, that we want to build really is about the destruction of colonization, white supremacy and capitalism,” said panelist Ashley McCray, an Oklahoma Democrat.
“We must really move away from these systems and these frameworks if we really want to live in a future that does have a regenerative economy and does enable liberation and equity for our communities. This is definitely something that we all want to push for.”
McCray added that the “hope and dream” is that “we do push forward Green New Deal,” a set of liberal policy ideas championed by far-left Democrats like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
In a March 2019 media interview, the 30-year-old Ocasio-Cortez slammed capitalism, an economic system in which trade and industry are controlled by private for-profit owners rather than state entities. She called it an unsustainable system.
“The most important thing is the concentration of capital and it means that we seek and prioritize profit and the accumulation of money above all else,” she described of capitalism. “And we seek [wealth] at any human and environmental cost. That is what that means. And to me, that ideology is not sustainable and cannot be redeemed.”
She warned against the consequences of “putting profit above everything else in society.”
