Putin said he would not "get into details" regarding what evidence his country might have that the CIA was involved in the destruction of the pipeline that carried oil from Russia to Germany, but said, "[W]e should not only look for someone who is interested, but also for someone who has capabilities, because there may be many people interested, but not all of them are capable of sinking to the bottom of the Baltic Sea and carrying out this explosion."
"These two components should be connected. Who is interested and who is capable of doing it?" he added.
Putin also suggested that any attempt by his country to reveal their knowledge of the situation would be "cost-prohibitive" because "the United States controls all the world's media and many European media."
"The ultimate beneficiary of the biggest European media are American financial institutions," he added. "Don't you know that?"
Swedish officials announced earlier this week that they have closed their investigation into Nord Stream explosion, though Denmark and Germany are still investigating, according to The Associated Press.
