'Trailblazer and a giant': Politicians react to Dianne Feinstein's death

President Biden, who served alongside Feinstein in the U.S. Senate for over a decade, issued a statement mourning the loss of the longtime lawmaker.

“Senator Dianne Feinstein was a pioneering American. A true trailblazer," he said. "And for Jill and me, a cherished friend.”

The president said he recruited her to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee when he was chairman.

"I knew what she was made of, and I wanted her on our team," he said, calling her “a role model for so many Americans" who mentored "countless public servants, many of whom now serve in my Administration.” 

“Dianne made her mark on everything from national security to the environment to protecting civil liberties," Biden added. "She’s made history in so many ways, and our country will benefit from her legacy for generations."
