5 things to know about sexual exploitation in the US, worldwide
2. Pornography isn't just about 'male fantasy'
Christen Price, senior legal counsel for the NCOSE law center, warned that one of the dangers of pornography and online sexual exploitation is that these are forms of abuse that can be “endlessly recycled.”
“Someone can always capture and share the content,” Price said, declaring it a lie that pornography is just “male fantasy.” The lawyer warned that men and others who seek out porn are increasingly seeking out content that is “real” and “recognizable.”
As Cybernews reported in 2021, a December 2020 report by the intelligence company Sensity found that the number of Deepfake Images has doubled every six months since the analysis began in December 2018. Deepfake images refer to content made using artificial intelligence that can closely resemble the real thing.
“They’re doing this to people they know,” Price said about the people making pornographic content. She added that websites like Pornhub are “complicit” in sexually exploiting individuals, noting the pornography website didn’t require ID verification for uploads until late 2020. The change came after the publication of a December 2020 New York Times article accusing Pornhub of hosting child sex abuse content.
