Freedom Kids lawsuit, sexual harassment claims, ‘Rocket Man’: 5 Trump controversies you might've forgotten
USA Freedom Kids lawsuit
Many Americans likely recall the USA Freedom Kids, a dance group comprised of preteen girls in patriotic outfits who went viral on social media for a performance at a Trump rally.
What might have been forgotten was that, in the summer of 2016, the dance troupe filed a lawsuit against the Trump campaign, accusing them of violating verbal agreements for performances at two events and refusing to pay a $2,500 stipend to cover their travel expenses. The suit claimed as much as $15,000 in damages.
However, in December 2016, weeks after Trump was elected president, the Freedom Kids voluntarily dismissed their lawsuit, with group manager Jeff Popick saying that he still held a positive opinion of Trump.
“The obvious issue aside, I really think he is exactly what this country needs right now,” said Popick in 2016 to the Naples Daily News. “I think Donald Trump is the guy who can really turn it around.”
In 2020, however, Popick and the Freedom Kids would switch sides, reworking their pro-Trump song and performance to be in support of President Joe Biden.
