50 Shades of Grey Movie Cast Rumors: Dakota Johnson, Charlie Hunnam Confirmed as Anastasia Steele, Christian Grey (VIDEO, PHOTOS)
50 shades of grey movie cast rumors have been put to dead this week as several official cast announcements have been made that confirm who will play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the eagerly awaiting film adaptation of the bestselling novel.
The lead roles in the movie will be Charlie Hunnam as Christians Grey, and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele.
The casting confirmations were made by author E.L. James herself via her Twitter page.
The author tweeted: "I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey."
Soon after that announcement hit the Internet, it was also announced that Charlie Hunnam would be joining opposite Johnson in the lead male role.
James tweeted: "The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey."
Hunnam is of course best known right now for starring on FX's hit "Son's of Anarchy," where he plays the role of Jax.
Hunnam is also well-known for his long running role as Nathan on "Queer as Folk" and his portrayal of Lloyd Hathe on the television series "Undeclared."
He was most recently featured in the summer action film "Pacific Rim."
His "Fifty Shades of Grey" co-star Dakota Johnson is also well-known for playing the role of Fugzay in the recent comedy movie "21 Jump Street."
She has also had a few television roles, most recently on NBC's "The Office."
Prior to Hunnam emerging as the lead contender for the role, the "Sons of Anarchy" star was not the only actor associated with the role. Earlier in the summer other big names touted to be being lined up for the role of Christian Grey were Garrett Hedlund and Ian Sommerhalder.
However, even though Hedlund and Sommerhalder were early favorites for the role, in more recent weeks the rumors about them died down, and just last month The Christian Post revealed that Hunnam was the likely favorite for the role. Those rumors have now been confirmed as true by the recent announcements from James.
Prior to Dakota Johnson being confirmed in the lead role there were also extensive rumors about who would take the Anastasia Steele role. Actresses involved in the rumors included Lily Collins, Emma Watson, Shailene Woodley, Alicia Vikander and Analeigh Tipton. However, Johnson has now taken the much sought-after role.
Sam Taylor-Johnson has been hired as director for the 50 Shades of Grey film, and a script will be created by Kelly Marcel. The first movie in the "Fifty Shades" series is set to hit theaters in August of 2014.
