Things to Know About Dugard's Book
Jaycee Dugard’s book, A Stolen Life has been put on public release today in bookstores all over the United States.
The book has already gone to the top of the rankings in Amazon’s book sales items. Here are six things that you should know about Jaycee Dugard’s memoir:
1) After being held captive for 18 years, Dugard wrote the dramatic story about her abduction without the help of a ghost writer.

“I was moved and inspired by the raw poser of Jaycee Dugard’s voice, her strength and her resilience,” said Simon & Schuster publisher Jonathan Karp according to People.
2) Although many people view Dugard’s story as a tragedy, the 31 year old views herself as an overcomer, and writes about her life changing ordeal from the perspective of a fighter. In the book’s promotional materials she writes: “I don’t think of myself as a victim. I survived.”
3) A Stolen Life sparked interest from at least 15 million viewers after the recent airing of Jaycee Dugard’s ABC interview with Diane Sawyer. However, despite the interest surrounding the book, publisher Simon & Schuster has managed to keep its contents relatively secret in the hope of increasing the book’s impact on release. According to People, Simon & Schuster has reported: “Reviewers get their copies Tuesday like everybody else. All we know so far comes from the short excerpt People Magazine and Sunday night's Sawyer interview.”
4) Publisher Simon & Schuster is also closely monitoring how many copies of the book will be printed. According to Hollywood Reporter, the first print run saw 200,000 copies originally printed, but an additional 15,000 were quickly added soon after that.
5) Along with the hardcover edition and eBook of Jaycee Dugard’s book, an unabridged audio book read by Dugard herself will be released.
6) For every copy of the book sold, a percentage of the sale will be donated to the JayC Fund, a foundation Dugard started to help other families who have suffered traumatic events.
