7 Bible Verses That We Can Meditate on During the Halloween Season
Many Christians have mixed feelings on this day, whether it is a day for ancient practices or a day of celebrating death and darkness. It seems most of the themes during Halloween are dark. But, that doesn't mean every Christian has to look at this day in that kind of way.
Different denominations have different practices, such as Protestants, who celebrate "All Hallows Eve" as a Reformation Day, a day to remember the Protestant Reformation. In America, Halloween is one of the most popular holidays, and many enjoy it together as harmless fun. But we should also be aware of the existence of our enemy, the devil, who prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).
Regardless of how we view Halloween, below are 7 Bible verses we can consider when it is that time of the year:
1 Corinthians 10:21 - You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
Matthew 5:13-14 - "You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[b] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
1 Peter 5:8 - Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
3 John 1:11 - Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.
Ephesians 5:11 - Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.
Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Ephesians 5:6-12 - Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.
