7 Reasons Wisdom Is Sweet to the Soul
"Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off." (Prov. 24:14)
Scripture emphasizes the importance of wisdom. God wants His children to be wise and discerning. The alternative is to be led astray by all manner of doctrine, as well as by our feelings.
Consider these 7 reasons wisdom is sweet to your soul:
1. Accepted by God
Those who are wise have come to see that our acceptance before God could never be accomplished through our own efforts, but only through the cross where Jesus paved the way for us to be brought to the Father.
"Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God." (1 Peter 3:18)
2. Assurance for the Future
The "future hope" Solomon referred to is something that all of God's people can look forward to experiencing. In fact, the assurance of salvation has been the source of deep joy for millions of believers over the centuries. Wisdom brings an assurance because wisdom leads a person to place his confidence in the promises of God.
3. Sense of Purpose
Wisdom from God brings clear direction in life, and a definite purpose for being on this planet. Those who are wise don't merely wander through life. Instead, they live each day with the joy of knowing that God has a plan and a purpose for each one of His children.
4. Insights for Daily Living
One of the sweetest things about wisdom is that it clarifies how God wants you to live. The Lord blesses the soul of anyone who yields to God's will. It is only when we resist God's will that we run into confusion and chaos. After all, "God is not a God of disorder but of peace." (1 Cor. 14:33)
5. A Wellspring of Love
Wisdom flows from the Lord's fountain of living water, and it brings God's love into the soul. The spring of human love tends to be quite weak much of the time, whereas the wellspring of God's love is like a huge waterfall for the soul.
Jesus said, "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." (John 7:38)
6. Seeing the Big Picture
No one sees the big picture unless God shows it to him. This is known as "revelation." God reveals the truth to us so that we can know Him, follow Him, and enjoy a relationship with Him forever. Scripture makes a person "wise for salvation." (2 Tim. 3:15)
7. Grace to Persevere
Many things in life are challenging, and this calls for endurance. Wisdom from God enables us to keep going and not give up. Jesus didn't give up on us as He suffered intensely on the cross during those agonizing hours of His crucifixion.
Thankfully, those who know Christ are given the grace to persevere when the going gets tough.
Will you rely upon Christ today for wisdom and perseverance? Will you receive the grace of God that brings salvation and satisfaction to your soul?
You won't regret it if you open your heart to the Lord's everlasting goodness. Nothing on earth is sweeter.
