8 Democrat presidential candidates who have talked about their Christian faith
Kirsten Gillibrand
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York talked about her beliefs at a CNN Town Hall event held earlier this month, explaining that she attends a prayer breakfast and two Bible studies on a weekly basis.
“I define myself by my faith. It centers me. It's something that is one of the reasons why I'm running for president,” she stated.
Gillibrand went on to note her belief that she believed there were positions of Christian morality that Democrats did better on than Republicans.
“I think anyone should be able to have faith, whether they're ultraconservative or liberal. And if you're coming from a Christian perspective, I would say the gospel doesn't leave anybody out,” continued Gillibrand.
“Are you helping the sick? Are you visiting the incarcerated? Do you believe in helping the least among us? Do you believe in the golden rule? Do you treat others the way you want to be treated? I would argue the Democrats are often better on those issues than Republicans.”
