$99 HP TouchPad Sale Still in Stock; HP to Continue TouchPads at Regular Price?
Hewlett-Packard announced Thursday that it will continue to stay in the business of manufacturing and selling PC’s after previously stating that the company may strictly focus on software.
This is both good and bad news for customers expecting a new shipment of the $99 HP TouchPads since when they finally come, the devices could be offered for their original prices running on a different OS.
The company’s CEO, Meg Whitman discussed HP making tablets Thursday during a press call with analysts, revealing that the new devices would run on Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 rather than WebOS, the software TouchPad originally ran on.

It is not clear whether these tablets will be new versions of the TouchPad or go by a different name.
“We’re at the beginning stages of a new segment in personal computing,” said Whitman.
Windows 8 will also run on HP’s new PCs as well.
"The work we do with Microsoft is extraordinary compelling," said Whitman.
Whitman also announced that the tablets would launch sometime next year and that HP plans to cement its success for the future with its next-gen hardware.
"One of my observations is that HP tries to do a lot of things," she said. "And I am a big believer in doing a small number of things really, really well -- set them up, knock them down, set them up, knock them down.”
HP will not be announcing the releases of any new products before the end of next month, according to Whitman.
HP has already produced a Windows tablet with the Slate 500 that is priced at $800 and sold exclusively to businesses.
Its consumer tablet, the infamous HP TouchPad was discontinued back in the summer.
That device ran off of WebOS, a system the company has not decided if it will continue to use for future hardware.
