$99 HP TouchPad: Team Xron Releases New Android ROM Developed From CyanogenMod Port (VIDEO)

Developer Team Xron released its version of the HP TouchPad Android port.

The custom ROM was created using a modified version of the original CyanogenMod 7 alpha port that fashioned Android 2.3 Gingerbread for use on the HP TouchPad.

Technology website UberGizmo noted that Team Xron’s port implements more features from Android 3.0 Honeycomb, an operating system that was developed especially for tablets.

According to UberGizmo, despite still running on Gingerbread, the port features Honeycomb themes and wallpapers as well as icons and widgets. Its boot animation is derived from the Google Nexus One as opposed to the CyanogenMod's logo

In addition, it has preloaded applications like Google Music, Google Talk with video support, Swype keyboard, Adobe Flash Player and Netflix.

YouTube User ReverendKJR released an instructional video on how to install the port onto an HP TouchPad, as seen below. He said the CyanogenMod port must be uninstalled before the Team Xron port can be installed.

Insiders also claim that installing Android on the HP TouchPad will void the tablet's warranty.

In the midst of the $99 HP TouchPad fire sale this past summer, several customers reported receiving the tablet equipped with Android 2.2 Froyo instead of HP's WebOS.

This peaked interest in Android on the HP TouchPad, after which, CyanogenMod released its alpha 1 port and its alpha 2 update soon after.

HP has confirmed the rumors are true and are investigating how an Android OS got into its TouchPad.

Rumors suggest that engineers at HP have experimented with porting Froyo onto the TouchPad and that some Froyo ported test units were accidentally shipped to retailers.
