$99 HP TouchPads Still Available? Refunds for Customers Who Paid Full-Price
HP is offering a partial refund in the United Kingdom for customers who purchased the HP TouchPad Tablet or Pre3 smartphone before Aug. 23, 2011.
The company’s official website has listed that it will be refunding customers who missed out on the discounted HP TouchPads and Pre3 smartphones after that date.
Among the products listed are the 16 GB HP TouchPad, the 32 GB TouchPad along with the 64 GB version.
For the 16 GB version, HP offers a refund of £89. For the 32 GB version it will compensate customers for £115. And for the 64 GB version, HP will give customers back £159.
HP also offers a refund on its Pre3 smartphone and will compensate buyers for £69.
The refund program was previously made available to U.S. customers who bought the HP Touchpad in the months prior to the cut-price sale in late August.
In the United Kingdom, any customer who activated or registered their device before Aug. 23 is eligible to claim back the difference.
Last month, HP revealed that it was pulling the plug on further webOS development which would make the company’s newest tablet and smartphone devices lose support.
After HP made this move, Dixons Group, the company that owns Currys and PC World, slashed the price of the 16 GB Touchpad to £89 from its original £399 price tag.
Higher spec versions such as the 32 and 64 GB versions received similar discounts.
In the U.S. the 16 GB HP TouchPad originally sold for $399 but dropped to $99 after HP decided to pull the plug on development for the device’s system.
The $99 HP TouchPad quickly became the hardest to find item in the United States after the price drop.
