'$99 HP TouchPads' to Become Available on September 28
For those consumers still anxious to get their hands on a $99 HP TouchPad, there is still hope, if you work for HP that is.
The tech company plans on making its HP TouchPad available specifically for employees on September 28 for $99 and $149.
HP plans to sell the tablet on a first come first serve basis for its workers.
Unfortunately each employee will be limited to purchasing one tablet, so buying in bulk and selling will not be to profitable if the worker chose to do so.
But techies still expect to see the device hit eBay shortly after September 28, where they would not surprisingly be marked up.
Once HP decided to discontinue the TouchPad, retailers began slashing prices and the device became impossible to find.
The 16GB version goes for $99 at some retailers and remains one of the hottest items in the tablet market.
Advancements have been made for the HP TouchPad since the device starting buzzing after the discount was applied, including making the device compatible with other operating systems.
A group of developers called TouchDroid were able to use Android OS on the TouchPad and even got its touch screen to be fully functional with the system.
To find the device for $99 at this point is nearly impossible, since supplies quickly ran out once the company slashed the prices.
HP is expected to ship 200,000 more TouchPads to retailers sometime in the near future.
However, there are no guarantees that the price for the 16GB version will stay at $99.
Amazon is currently selling the 16GB TouchPad for around $250.
HP initially suffered loss in the Apple dominated tablet computer market when it released the TouchPad.
The TouchPad, along with other companies tablets have all had a hard time competing with Apple's iPad.
