A Local Police Department Works With the Community to Help the Homeless
The Houston Police Department has a long history working with the minority community in the city. The strategy to working together was to implement community-oriented policing. This strategy uses problem-solving techniques and partnerships to proactively manage the environment. Watching these officers go around to these people and help them is heartwarming.
When there is good chemistry between the police and the community members, it usually leads to positive things -- including a drop in the crime rate. There are more smiles and less frowns. Some people in the community are usually aware of who commits the crimes, but a relationship must be built before trust can become a factor. NYC began using this system early in the 1990s and crime went down in every category as time went on.
Many of the people who are now homeless had successful lives and college degrees, but things went downhill unfortunately. God loves us all equally, and these people are just lost and need someone to steer them in the right direction.
Thankfully, these officers are serving their community in a positive way.
